Jean-Guy began his career as a carpenter before becoming a building contractor. He was promoted to building site superintendent at the age of 19. At age 26, he took part in Expo 67 by constructing 450 cottages, 150 residences, and 650 temporary rooms. He was one of the earliest constructors of Blainville. He built some 3,000 cottages and 1,500 houses in the Thérèse-de-Blainville RCM.
In 1973, he began his career as a real estate broker for Immeubles Henri-Paul Bélanger. Two years later, in 1975, he opened his first brokerage office: Les Immeubles Jean-Guy Ayotte. Jean-Guy Ayotte was in charge of nearly 1,000 brokers. In 1988, this company was renamed System-A. He subsequently sold it to Trans-Action and soon rose to the top of the broker market.
In 2001, he founded his own real estate firm, Abitations Services Immobiliers. He opted to write "Abitations" without an "h" as the residence of Samuel de Champlain, the first dwelling in New France. At the time, he was committed to the commercial and industrial sectors, while some other twenty brokers were responsible for the residential sector. In 2014, he sold it to Royal Lepage and continued working as a company real estate broker. He later forms the Jean-Guy Ayotte Team.
Throughout his career, he has been engaged in almost 13,000 real estate deals. He has completed numerous commercial transactions, ranging from a few hundred thousand to several million, including the sale of the Sablière Demers for around 44 million dollars.
Moreover, it was Jean-Guy who, in 1977, founded the Nord-Info newspaper, which he later sold. He was also in charge of developing the shopping mall Les Portes du Fontainebleau. Jean-Guy built the building where Abitations Services Immobilier - now Royal Lepage Habitations - is located. He has also won several excellence awards. Very involved in the community, he has donated to many organizations, such as the Fondation de l'Hôpital de Saint-Eustache, La Maison des jeunes de Blainville, La Fondation du Collège Lionel-Groulx, Moisson Basses-Laurentides, Le Petit Théâtre du Nord, Fondation Drapeau Deschambault, to name a few!
